1. Contribution to DotNetNuke
Your contest entry will become available for community download and use (after the contest) using the same license as DotNetNuke Community Edition. When you submit your entry you will be asked to accept the standard Contributor Agreement terms which enable us to do that. At the same time, the agreement returns to you unlimited rights to continue to use your skin as you see fit. It will be our pleasure to continue to showcase and promote your contribution long after the contest ends.
The skin should include the appropriate license as a text file (license.txt), referenced within the DNN 5 manifest so that it will display properly when the skin is installed. If your skin relies upon external components (or skin objects) that are not part of DotNetNuke, they must also be available under an open source MIT (or BSD) style license so that your skins can be freely used from the gallery.
You must have rights to redistribute the images used in your skin. This means that skins cannot contain Stock / Royalty images unless you also have the right to transfer distribution rights from the owner of the photograph or image. Because our desire is to showcase DotNetNuke skinning and educate the community, you are encouraged (but not required) to provide original files for images used in the skin.
2. XHTML Doctype
In an effort to showcase web standards compliance in DotNetNuke, we encourage designers to develop their skins with standards in mind. All skins submitted should (at least) use an XHTML doctype (transitional, strict, or frameset). One of the judging criterias is "Technical implementation" and standards compliance (XHTML) and excessive use of tables are a consideration.
This means you should include a "Skinname".doctype.xml file for every skin.
3. Most Common Browsers
The skin should work in the most commonly used modern browsers.
This means: Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 2+, Safari 3+
The skin should also function in IE6, but some limitations are understandably allowed here.
(This will also be judged under "Technical implementation")
4. DNN 5 Skin Package
The skin MUST be packaged as a DotNetNuke 5 extension.
This means you will have to add a manifest file ("skinname.dnn"). For skin objects, it is preferable that you use the newer object tags formats for DNN 5.
5. Preview Images
You MUST supply preview images with your skin package.
These are the images that are used to present a site administrator a preview of the skin / container. On the skin contest site these images will also be used to visually represent the skin package.
These images should be a screen print (1:1, not scaled) of the Skin in action. A JPEG for every skin in the package called "skinname".jpg.
6. Release Notes
The DNN 5 manifest file also permits entry of Release Notes. Please be aware that the contest judges will use your Release Notes as a reference when evaluating your entry. So be sure to explain the purpose or the concept behind your skin well, especially for the "Modern Web Standards" and the "Think Outside the Box" categories.
7. Portal Template
Your skin will be installed on a test portal for community members to view and experience. You are encouraged (but not required) to export and submit a "mock up" or "sample site" which shows off your skin at its best. If you submit a portal template, we'll work with you to ensure it is properly applied.
8. Skin Categories
You may submit one or more skins for each of the following categories. You cannot submit the same skin (or one that is largely identical in design) to multiple categories.
► Modern Business
► Personal
► Modern Web Standards
► Think Outside the Box
9. No Solpartmenu
The use of Solpart menu is not allowed for page navigation. Solpart is a legacy component and not actively maintained. DNNMenu should be used; it can do everything Solpart can do and even more.
